A pair of Javanese Loro Blonyo figures, 19th century, wood carved male and female figures, polished wood and with painted features, showing some wear with age as some of the skirts have chipped away on both figures. Loro Blonyo is a miniature of traditional Javanese bridegroom. The statue is a symbol of the God and goddess of fertility in Javanese culture: Devi (goddess) Cri and God Sadono. Provenance: from the private collection of an Australian diplomat, collected throughout Asia in the 1980's and 1990's. Height 51 cm, 52 cm (2)
