A Chinese stone Kwan Yin temple carving depicting the Buddhist bodhisattva in bass relief, carved from grey, green rhyolite. The Kwan Yin is possibly a cave carving from Shandong Province and stylistically could date from the mid Ming period. Purchased by the vendor at the Shanghai Antiquities Market 1960. Exhibited at the Canterbury Museum. Height 41 cm. Width 29.5 cm. Diameter 4 cm

The Ming Dynasty is known for its cultural achievements, including the development of porcelain, the invention of movable type printing, and the construction of the Great Wall of China.
