Matau - copper shark hook, of incredible scale with triple barb. Tightly bound cord attached to a braided trace. Nails from early whaling boats were traded heavily with Maori., a seafarer's kinship also encouraged the exchange of rope knowledge which the innovative Maori seafarers adopted. This extremely large form would have been used to target deep-sea shark. Length 24 cm. Width 12 cm (hook only)
