18ct gold hunter cased split seconds chronograph pocket watch, by Baume (Longines) 52 mm case and gold dust cover with English import assay marks for 1907, maker's mark B&Co. Dust cover with Gisborne Racing Club presentation inscription, monogram to front cover. White enamel dial with Roman numerals, minutes track, subsidiary seconds and thirty minutes dials, blued steel hands, fine blued steel and gold sweep seconds hands activated by two case rim pushers. 123gm

- Hunter - A hunter pocket watch is the type where the case includes a spring-hinged circular metal lid or cover, that closes over the glass face of the watch, protecting it from dust, scratches and other damage or debris. The majority of antique and vintage hunter-case watches have the lid-hinges at the 9 o?clock position, suiting the right handed user.
- Chronograph - A chronograph is a watch that also incorporates the features of a stopwatch, to measure elapsed time. Most chronographs are operated by two buttons, one to start and stop the chronograph second hand, and the other to return that hand to the starting position.
- Assay / Assayed - Assaying is the testing of a metal, most commonly silver and gold to determine its ingredients and quality. In Britain, once an item of silver or gold has been assayed, a mark is stamped on it, certifying its purity. Known as hallmark, it derives its name from the Guild Hall of the Goldsmiths' Company, who recieved its Charter in 1327 giving it the power to assay and mark articles of gold and silver.
