A Givenchy necklace, featuring a coral colour filigree pendant on a gold tone mesh chain. Gold tone. Total length 37 cm. Pendant size 5 x 4.8 cm. Hubert de Givenchy started designing and producing his Couture jewellery collections in 1967. He was known for using beautiful rhinestones, polished glass, various plated metals, and faux pearls to make his pieces stand out. His creations were so popular that high end fashion boutiques worldwide carried his pieces. Givenchy's classic designs made his pieces very popular and collectible.

  • Filigree Work - Jewels - Filigree is delicate and intricate ornamental metal-work made from thin threads of gold or silver, soldered and twisted together to give the effect of lace. The filigree work may be freestanding, or attached to the surface of an object.
  • Faux - A French word meaning "false", but when used in decorative arts, the intention is not to deceive, but to simulate the decorative effects of the more expensive material it is imitating. The term " faux bois" meaning "false wood" refers to a furniture item that has been decorated with a marked grain (woodgrain finish)  to imitate a more expensive timber.
  • Coral - Coral used in jewellery. Coral is a material that is commonly used in jewellery making. It is made up of the skeletons of tiny marine animals called coral polyps. There are many species of coral, but only one group, Corallium, is suitable for carving, and thus can be used in jewellery manufacture. These have a deep red or pink orange skeleton and are known as "noble coral" or "precious coral".
