Frame: 59 cm x 49.5 cm image: 38 cm x 25.5 cm; other notes: Leonard Foujita is considered one of the most important Japanese artists of the 20th century. After studying Western style painting in Japan, he travelled to Paris in his mid-twenties and following World War II, moved to France permanently, becoming a French citizen. His portraits of beautiful women combine elements of Japanese and Western painting, with delicate line work characteristic of traditional Japanese ink paintings.
