A pair of Chinese porcelain cylindrical lidded ginger jars of the great Helmsman design showing a scene of an ocean liner at sunset, with the inscription 'Sailing the seas depends on a Helmsman, making revolution depends on Mao Zedong thought', a similar smaller scene on reverse, with inscription 'Ride the waves and cleave the waves'. Made in Jingdezhen, early 1970s. 27.5 cm high. Provenance: purchased at Bloomsbury Auctions, London, November 2009 'Mao and the arts of new china, including the collection of Peter and Susan Wain'
