St. Kilda Football Club: A silver pocket watch (by W.H. Elliott of Boort) presented in a custom-made leather case with silk and felt lining onto which an ornate gold plaque has been affixed and engraved: 'St. Kilda Football Club. Presented to Alfred Smith Esq., by a few of his admirers in recognition of services rendered in the field. Season 1886.', Alfred Smith (1867 - 1936) had a wonderful career at St.Kilda. In 1886, he was 19 years old when he first appeared for the club and he remained part of the team for the next eight years, during which he played 157 games and kicked 72 goals. During this period, St.Kilda was one of the leading teams in the V.F.A. Smith reappeared in the team for one game in 1898 (against Carlton in Round 14), by which time St.Kilda had become a foundation member of the newly created V.F.L.
