Large 19th century Russian icon with removable large ornate centre gilt bronze crucifix inset into painted wood panel depicting the Descent from the Cross, the Entombment, the two Marys and St John and Longinus the Centurion, with Saints to the borders. Provenance: Purchased from Mark Gallery Fine Art, Porchester Place, Marble Arch, London measures 53 cm high, 43 cm wide, overall (Cross measures 38 cm high, 19.5 cm wide. Other Notes: Good condition apart from small spit to bottom centre of panel and some small surface paint loss to top border see images

    It is very fluid in a molten state, and its hardness, strength when set, and non-corrosive properties makes it most suitable for casting sculpture.
