An 1862 E Class tank engine, road number '42' (135 x 37 x 50 mm) built by Avonside Engine Co, black livery with gold plated trim, 2-4-0 wheel configuration, rebuilt & renumbered '49' in 1889 (when bogie was added), condemned and scrapped in 1929. (E Class 2-4-0 locomotives were acquired to work passenger and goods train services, this example was purchased from the canterbury provincial railway of New Zealand having been previously been salvaged from the ship 'Hyderabad' which was wrecked during a gale near Levin (NZ) in 1878).
