A large argillite toki, Maori adze blade, of tapered trapezoidal form, blade slightly curved, non-polished, surface with evidence of flake chipping. This adze made of D'Urville Island argillite would have been a product of high value exported over long distances in pre-European times. Provenance: From the collection of Keith St Cartmail. National registration number: Y509, length 24.5 cm, width 8 cm, diameter 4.5 cm
