A pair of Indonesian ancestor figures, circa first half 20th century, the figures carved from wood in the round as male and female protective couple, probably the founding couple of a clan or village, decorated with a sarong of woven cotton in Dutch national colours, and with old Chinese coins, 'Uang kepeng', male 76 cm high, female 75 cm high. Provenance: The Estate of Dr Peter Mervyn Elliott Am, Sydney (1927-2014), Mossgreen Auctions, Sydney, 1 September 2015, lot 861.
