Rare ancestor figure. Yuat river, East Sepik Province, New Guinea. Late 19th, early 20th century. Wood with natural ochres. The addition of a carved hat, does put this figure into a period around the time of the German colonial administration, as it obviously mimics the headgear worn by Kiaps, or patrol officers. The figure came originally from a private New York collection, height 75 cm
