The Australian Team to England, 1882 Original sepia-toned cabinet card depicting the second official Australian touring team to England; mounted on original Hills & Saunders (Oxford) card, 11 x 15.5 cm. Although the team played a lot of cricket against the Counties, only one Test match was played; Australia winning by 7 runs. Spofforth, the 'Demon bowler' took 14 wickets. This was Australia's first Test win on English soil. The magazine 'Bell's Life' said. 'Though England for the first time had to lower her colours to Australia at home, we were beaten by a magnificent eleven, before whose prowess it was no disgrace to fall.' The Australian team included Bannerman, Murdoch, Giffen, Blackham and Spofforth. The English team included W.G.Grace, Ulyett, Peate and Barlow.
