A fine half size Roman marble torso of Aphrodite, late 1st/early 2nd century, the naked goddess of Love modelled in a highly naturalistic style, bending forward with her right leg advanced slightly and tilting to her left, perhaps originally retrieving a towel at her bath, the attitude of the so called Venus Pudica, on later stand, the torso 39.5 cm high. Provenance: Hubay Collection 1978-1984, Exhibited: The University of Melbourne, 1985-1990
