A contemporary Inanga pounamu Maori mere by Lewis Tamihana Gardiner, the elegant wide spatulate blade narrowing to a fine edge, the reduced tapered grip with single suspension hole, five concave encircling tapered ridges to the butt, plaited muka cord. Length 375 .Raised on greenstone slab cut from a river worn boulder with metal support. Note: the Inanga type of New Zealand jade is highly prized by carvers and is now a rare variety. Historically Maori have always held the Inanga variety as the most highly prized of all and reserved mainly for people of noble rank. This mere pounamu was exhibited at the Zi Gang Bei Jade Symposium in Suzhou, China, in 2015 where Lewis Gardiner has received gold and silver medals at this prestigious annual event. The internal markings on the mere are referred to as ?Pipiwharauroa, The Shimmering Chatoyant Feathers from the Shining Cuckoo?. Complete with Ngai Tahu authentication i.d
