Hollow Plywood Paddle/Surfboard '50s Australian crafted 'cigar box' type paddle- Surfboard. Original example of a multi-purpose hollow surf craft constructed of marine plywood and timber. 8 feet x 23 inches model, well-constructed using nails not screws, and a varnish finish. Solid timber keel type skeg and a bung in the tail. Often these plywood boards were built at boatbuilding yards between bigger jobs, and many were used as stand-up paddle surfboards, particularly in Victoria and South Australia. They were also called 'kook boxes' by surfers with more progressive surf equipment. Condition-this is an excellent example with one repaired ding in the bottom only, and missing it's Bung plug.
