A gold medal/brooch from the 1888 Melbourne Exhibition, the medal with later brooch fitting, featuring a bust of Queen Victoria, awarded S.Smith & Son at the 1888 Centennial international Exhibition, Melbourne, designed by Stokes & Martin Sc, Melbourne mint, boxed. Condition: brooch fitting has been mounted to the back of the medal in 18ct gold and stainless steel. Heavy overall wear with significant bends in gold, large dints, scratches and flat spots. Medal tested 22ct gold, total weight 47.1 gms, original weight when minted 45.0gms.
