A large rectangular silver repousse jardiniere, late Qing Dynasty, late 19th-early 20th century. The convex sides surmounted by a pierced gallery above, all with finely worked pine, prunus and mambo, the whole supported at the corners by four sea dragons. Marked 'WH 90' with a impressed seal of 'Bao Sheng' to the base, 29 cm x 18 cm, 1539grams weight. Provenance: A private Perth collection

  • Embossed / Repousse - Embossing, also known as repousse, is the technique of decorating metal with raised designs, by pressing or beating out the design from the reverse side of the object.It is the opposite of chasing, where the decoration is applied from the front. An embossed or repoussed object may have chasing applied to finish off the design.
