An early 20th century N.Z. presentation silver table centrepiece, octagonal form with raised tall trumpet vase upon a large spreading dish on a waisted stem with scrolling arms supporting two smaller conforming dishes, spreading base, pierced scroll engraved wide border panels, presentation engraved 'Presented to Mrs Felix McGuire by Friends as a Token of Their Esteem & Regards on her Departure from Mount Royal, Taranaki, 30.4.13'. Birmingham 1911 by Stewart Dawson & Co. Ltd. Note: Felix McGuire born 1847 in County Fermanagh, Ireland, arrived in New Zealand c.1864 and served throughout the Waikato campaign, also serving in the Taranaki campaign where he joined the cavalry company at Wanganui serving in engagements against Titokowaru, mentioned in dispatches. Then becoming politically active, becoming the first mayor of Hawera, retiring from this position in 1882. It is noted that 'Mr McGuire resides at Mount Royal, near Oakura, and farms on an extensive scale. He married a daughter of the late Mr J. Quinn, of Wanganui in 1868...'. This silver centrepiece being a presentation to his wife on their departure from Mount Royal. 1704gms. Height 40 cm
