Gold bullion balance scales mounted on cedar single drawer base, scales stamped in 1863 with two sets of weights, one in Troy ounces (0.1 to 0.5oz Troy all stamped in 1855 at the Old Melbourne Observatory) & a rare set of currency weights denominated in shillings & pence (S & D). As the gold price remained constant for over 100 years hence the weights denominated in shillings & pence. 37 cm
