An antique Straits Chinese silver casket, 19th century, in the Malay manner, the oval cushion shaped casket with a swing handle with repousse floral and foliate work throughout with a patterned lower section, a hook clasp to a heart shaped lock and raised on small bun feet, with a quilted lining; marked underside with Chinese characters to a double cartouche. Total weight 276gr height 11 cm. Width 16 cm. Depth 11 cm

  • Embossed / Repousse - Embossing, also known as repousse, is the technique of decorating metal with raised designs, by pressing or beating out the design from the reverse side of the object.It is the opposite of chasing, where the decoration is applied from the front. An embossed or repoussed object may have chasing applied to finish off the design.
