A rare brown jade beast, Ming Dynasty or probably earlier, recumbent with its head turned back towards the split tail, the caramel-coloured stone with some darker inclusions, 5 cm long. Provenance: Collection of Jim Forbes, Boston, USA, whose family had been involved with the China trade. Most of the collection is in the Peabody Museum, Massachusetts, USA.

The Ming Dynasty is known for its cultural achievements, including the development of porcelain, the invention of movable type printing, and the construction of the Great Wall of China.
