Early mere pounamu. A highly valued and potent cultural symbol of mana (authority and prestige) as well as an effective weapon during the pre-musket era. Mere of this early type are rarely seen. The well balanced blade tapers the a natural point with a hourglass pierced suspension hole. Dark green pounamu with signs of traditional working cuts to handle. Length 37 cm. Width 7.4 cm.
