A good modern Charlie Wilson carved greenstone double sided hei tiki, traditional form with one side displaying left hand to thigh, right hand to chest, head on an angle, serrated edged paua shell inset eyes, the other side with hands clasped to thighs, head at an angle, inset serrated edged paua eyes, finely detailed and with good polish, of good deep green colour with orange/tan toned inclusion towards the lower side. Note: double sided hei tikis are uncommon. Charles Raponi Wilson (Ngati Rangitihi, Tuhourangi) has been carving for over 30 years and is recognised as one of the finest carvers of hei tiki. Recently he was commissioned by N.Z. Post to carve a hei tiki to be featured on its annual Matariki stamp series.
