A Royal Worcester porcelain 'Limoges Enamel' decorated charger, dated 1878 and 1887, the enamel decoration by Thomas John Bott, circular, cobalt blue ground, finely decorated in white enamel with a bust-length portrait of a woman, 'Louisa', after Charles Paul Alphonse Bellay, signed and dated at the lower edge 'T.J. Bott 1878', inscribed and further signed '"Louisa" after Ch. Bellay. / T.J. Bott Jr 1878' to the underside together with impressed and printed factory marks, the printed mark with date letter Y (for 1887), mounted in an antique ebonised and gilt frame, apparently original to the charger, 41 cm diameter, 53 cm diameter framed. Other notes: the discrepancy between Bott's dating of his work in his signatures and the printed factory mark seems to indicate that the charger remained with the factory for nine years after Bott's work on it before the printed mark was applied, the latter presumably added in readiness for the sale of the piece.. Condition: the charger: under Uv light and at close inspection several small groups of five short scratches are apparent throughout the subjects face, particularly around the centre of the subjects face- through the nose and down to the chin, the frame: superficial wear visible to the decoration, a small chip to frame
