A gilt edged Worcester porcelain lobed circular painted in the London atelier of James Giles with exotic birds, fruit and an insect. English circa 1768/70, red anchor mark. Provenance: Sir Ian and Lady Heilbron collection. Albert Amor Ltd London Treasures from Toronto. 1993 no 40. Robert Burke collection no 185. The bold painting of the birds and the bright palette are typical of the works of Giles and this wa probably the work of a painter formerly employed at Chelsea. 19.5 cm diameter

- Atelier - Atelier (French for "workshop"), in English usuage describes the workshop of an artist in the fine or decorative arts, where the artist and a number of assistants, students and apprentices worked together producing pieces that went out in the artists name. This was the standard practice for European artists from the Middle Ages to the 18th or 19th century
- Circa - A Latin term meaning 'about', often used in the antique trade to give an approximate date for the piece, usually considered to be five years on either side of the circa year. Thus, circa 1900 means the piece was made about 1900, probably between 1895 and 1905. The expression is sometimes abbreviated to c.1900.
