Manos Nathan Tunatahi, fired terracotta vase form with splayed handle-like detailing. Maker's signature and work title inscribed to base. Manos Nathan (1948 - 2015) was born in Rawene, and has Greek and Maori heritage. He remains a leading figure in the development of the Maori ceramics movement, and was instrumental in founding Nga Kaihanga Uku and Te Atinga, height 25 cm, width 48.5 cm, depth 24 cm

  • Terracotta - Terracotta is lightly fired earthenware, red or reddish-brown in colour, used in ancient times. Fired at higher temperatures terracotta was used in the nineteenth century for decorative vases and similar objects, but rarely for utilitarian goods. Other uses for terracotta include roofing tiles, garden pots and ornaments. Glazed terracotta is known as faience.
