Vintage seed pearl jewellery suite; a 7 mm wide rope twist necklace to 14ct gold terminals and clasp, length 47.5 cm; pendant a dome cluster surmounting a pendulous cluster drop both an a Mother of pearl ground on a multi strand pearl bale, size 85 x 30 mm; drop earrings each a round cluster suspending a long drop shape cluster on 14ct gold post and butterfly fitting, size 40 x 10 mm, one drop cluster dislodged.

- Mother-Of-Pearl - Mother-of-pearl, technical name "nacre", is the inner layer of a sea shell. The iridescent colours and strength of this material were widely used in the nineteenth century as an inlay in jewellery, furniture, (especially papier mache furniture) and musical instruments.
In the early 1900s it was used to make pearl buttons. Mother-of-pearl is a soft material that is easily cut or engraved.
Nowadays it is a by-product of the oyster, freshwater pearl mussel and abalone industries.
