W. G. Grace visited Australia in 1873?74 as captain of 'W.G. Grace's XI'. An original vintage brass belt buckle, oval-shaped, with a title ribbon across the base 'Australia - W.G. Grace's - Players' above which is a central vignette head and shoulder portrait of Grace, flanked on either side by the names of the twelve cricketers who made up the team; the whole surmounted by a pair of crossed cricket bats. This extremely rare buckle is attractively framed and glazed together with details of the tour, sponsored by the Melbourne Cricket Club and a group of reproduction caricatures of Grace. Overall 78 x 58 cm.
