A rose gold wristwatch by de Grisogono, automatic, square Mother of pearl dial with applied gold Arabic numerals, sub seconds at six and date at seven, 18ct rose gold case with glazed section to reverse and gold lugs finished with green leather bands and gold deployment clasp, 42 mm diameter, boxed and with papers.

In the early 1900s it was used to make pearl buttons. Mother-of-pearl is a soft material that is easily cut or engraved.
Nowadays it is a by-product of the oyster, freshwater pearl mussel and abalone industries.
