New Zealand silver William Rose Bock (1847 - 1881) Wellington brooch, oval form featuring a moa with a vista towards Mt Taranaki in the background. Stamped ?Wrb? to the reverse with New Zealand sterling silver marks. Later monogram dated 1893 to reverse. Also signed ?Bock? under applied leaves to front., Bock arrived in Wellington in 1868 and set up business as a lithographer and engraver. In the 1870s he designed and prepared the dies for NZs first stamps. He was also very highly regarded as an engraver and illuminator, his significant contributions including the New Zealand international exhibition set, the New Zealand Industrial exhibition medals and certificates and the first chromolithographic book printed in New Zealand (Art album of New Zealand flora). He was also lauded for his involvement in the development of New Zealand stamp production between 1875 and 1931., W 5.5 cm Est $2,000 - 4,000
