Giles Bettison: an early glass vase (1995), of teardrop form in bright yellow glass with an internal lattice design, engraved 'Giles Bettison 4/95' to base. Height 34 cm, other notes: Created while he was a student at the Australian National University, this piece is from a series of five pieces, three of which are illustrated in the book, pattern and Perception, page 34, and listed as 'Untitled vessels, 1995.'

- Engraved Glass - The method of decorating glass by marking the surface with a sharp intrument such as a diamond, metal needle or rotating cutting wheel. As pressure is applied to the surface, best results for engraving are achieved if the glass is of sufficient thickness. In the 19th century etching was used to decorate some table glassware that was too fine to take an engraving tool.
