John James Audubon (1785 ? 1851), Scolopaceus Courlan (plate Ccclxxvii), from Audubon's 'The birds of America', hand-coloured engraved plate, 1837 by Robert Havell after John James Audubon, image 48 x 77 cm. (75.5 x 106 cm frame). Framed and glazed in New York. With certificate of Provenance dated October 1985 and signed by Edward Koch, then Mayor of New York. The certificate States 'This engraving was purchased by the city of New York in 1850 from the family of John Kames Audubon to acknowledge his contribution to the wilderness heritage of the nation. The beneficiary of its sale is the reference and Research Fund of the Municipal Archives of the city of New York.'
