West Indies: 1960-61 Tour of Australia: photograph of West Indian Captain Sir Frank Worrell receiving keys for a hire car, dated 'Hobart 5.1.61' and Launceston '10.1.61' with signed dedication 'Appreciated your fine gesture in providing US with transport in Tasmania. The Falcon, a great little car ! Your sincerely Frank Worrell', 25 x 30.50 cm. West Indies narrowly lost the series 2-1, with a further game drawn and the first test ending in a dramatic tie. Worrell was the first black man to Captain a West Indies team for a complete series and both he and Australian Captain Richie Benaud were lauded for encouraging their teams to play attacking cricket. This photo was taken between the second and third Tests with the West Indies playing a Tasmania combined XI at Hobart (Jan. 5-7) and Tasmania at Launceston (Jan 9-10), winning both games.
