Black Coral Branch Necklace with Silver Clasp

A black coral branch necklace, designed as a single strand of elongated black coral branches, measuring approximately from 38 mm to 65 mm, completed with a silver clasp, gross weight approximately 86.50 grams, length 42.00 cm. The first new black coral bed found in centuries was discovered in deep waters off Lahaina, Maui in 1958. It is Hawaii's state gemstone. Slow to grow, when polished, the black coral has a high lustre. It is lightweight and so is perfect for large, bold pieces of jewellery., Cf. A. - Coral - Coral used in jewellery. Coral is a material that is commonly used in jewellery making. It is made up of the skeletons of tiny marine animals called coral polyps. There are many species of coral, but only one group, Corallium, is suitable for carving, and thus can be used in jewellery manufacture. These have a deep red or pink orange skeleton and are known as "noble coral" or "precious coral".
