A vintage Venesta Ltd lead lined timber travelling trunk with travel papers, c,1920-1930 for Dr T.S Greenaway & his Wife Vesesta Lt boxes & barrels, Vintry house, Queen St place, London- the boxes gained special notoriety from their use on two well-publicized Antarctic expeditions. Ernest Shackleton's Nimrod expedition (1907-1909) took some 2500 Venesta boxes to the Antarctic, where they withstood difficult conditions including exposure to salt water and burial in ice Dr T.S Greenaway & his wife travelled between London, Australia, Mombasa, Africa, Dr Greenaway was an expert in the plague and other relayed illnesses 30 x 91 x 54 cm
