Fitzroy Football Club Dinner Menu, Australia Hotel, October 2nd, 1935, Extensively signed by the players and officials, for whom the dinner was given, including Brownlow Medallist Haydn Bunton, Doug Nicholls, Chick Smallhorn, Dinny Ryan, Wally Gray, Leonard Maynes, Jim Toohey, Alan Fitcher, Charlie Cameron, Don Quartermain and many more. Provenance: From the estate of Leonard Maynes (Fitzroy & Essendon), In 1932, Doug Nicholls (later Sir Doug) joined the VFL's Fitzroy Football Club and in 1935, he was the first Aboriginal player to be selected to play for the Victorian interstate team, ultimately playing four interstate games. He played a total of six seasons for Fitzroy, before returning to the Northcote team in 1938. Knee injuries forced him to retire in 1939. He returned to Northcote as non-playing coach in 1947.

  • Victorian Period - The Victorian period of furniture and decorative arts design covers the reign of Queen Victoria from 1837 to 1901. There was not one dominant style of furniture in the Victorian period. Designers used and modified many historical styles such as Gothic, Tudor, Elizabethan, English Rococo, Neoclassical and others, although use of some styles, such as English Rococo and Gothic tended to dominate the furniture manufacture of the period.

    The Victorian period was preceded by the Regency and William IV periods, and followed by the Edwardian period, named for Edward VII (1841 ? 1910) who was King of the United Kingdom and the British Dominions and Emperor of India for the brief period from 1901 until his death in 1910.
