Japanese Shin-Gunto officer's sword with World War II fittings. Signed and dated on the Nakago & a Seki arsenal stamp, a city in central Gifu Prefecture, with a 500 year history of sword production. the date was the 17th year of the Showa period =1942 (the Showa period was 1926 to 1989 & 1926 is counted as year 1). Brought back to Australia by an Australian soldier at the end of World War II. Collection Dr John Raven, Perth.
