Public house (liquor) license 1836. Licence to keep an Inn or public house New South Wales internal Revenue office Sydney 2nd August 1836. Issued to Michael Rafter to keep a Common Inn, ale house, or Victualing house at the sign of the bullock situated at Colo (signed) Wm Macpherson Collector of internal Revenue. Official wax seal. Single printed brief folio sheet (33 x 20 cm), watermark 1835, finished in manuscript. Museum standard conservation to folds without affecting text. This is possibly the earliest known Australian public house (liquor) license. There are no earlier licenses revealed to be in public institutions or in private hands. Enclosed in Mylar.
