The M.C.C. Team in South Africa 1938-39, 28 x 37 cm team photograph, laid down on card, signed by the whole party in the margin below. Noted Ames, Edrich, Hutton, Yardley, Hammond and Paynter. Five Test matches were played, with England winning one and the other four ending in draws. The final Test was declared a draw (even though 1981 runs had been scored) so that the English team could catch their ship back to England. Provenance: Formerly in the Monty Noble Collection.
