A Chinese landscape painting, watercolour and pigment on paper. Marks refer to Wen ZhenMing. Wen Zhengming was one of a number of Ming Dynasty literati artists who set themselves in opposition to the professional, academy-influenced style favored in the region of Zhejiang. Wen Zhengming was also a prolific and well-known writer, whose poems often touched on the subject of the painting. He regarded art and nature as being inseparable, and frequently wrote and painted nature scenes, as well as private gardens such as the humble administrator's garden, 185 cm x 53 cm

During the Ming Dynasty, China experienced a period of relative stability and prosperity. The government was centralized and bureaucratic, with the emperor at the top of the hierarchy. The Ming Dynasty is known for its cultural achievements, including the development of porcelain, the invention of movable type printing, and the construction of the Great Wall of China.
