Pair of Chinese style men's shoes, c.1890, in black silk, with symbol embroidered to toe, belonging to Dr burden and Australian medical missionary working in China for the china Inland Mission in Shanghai & Chung King, name is written in English on the lining of the shoes, length 27 cm catalogue note: it was common practice for Missionaries to wear Chinese dress to blend in with the population.
