A late 19th century possibly N.Z. silver quality engraved cigar case, rounded rectangular form, finely detailed with overlapping fern leaves forming the cartouche, floral spray highlights, push-button hinged lid release, the cartouche with monogram initials 'MA'. 6.5 cm x 2.6 cm x 12 cm.

  • Cartouche - An ornamental panel in the form of of a shield, oval or rectangular scroll with curling edges.     In ceramics the term defines the central area of a vase or similar with a decorative border in one of the shapes above, into which a decorative scene or figures have been painted.
