A carved bamboo 'scholars in landscape' brushpot Qing dynasty, 19th century, of cylindrical form on three shallow feet, the sides deeply carved with a continuous scene of scholars and officials with attendants in various pursuits, some inspecting a scroll, others drinking wine, others seated painting or playing go, amongst gnarled pine trees and bamboo groves in a landscape of rocky cliffs, an inscription to one side Song Yin Ju Xian, Jia Wu Xia Yue Shang Geng, 16 cm high
