The historic diary kept by 39065 Lt. (later Captain) Edward Vere Hayward of 28th Maori Battalion, this is a very detailed diary, making much mention of the engagements of the 28th Maori Batn such as Minqar Qaim. Hayward was a popular and well-known officer and accompanied General Montgomery in Rotorua in 1953. Few, if any, 28th Batn diaries survive.
