A spectacular walnut carved Black Forest long case clock, c1900, the ornate case surmounted with a large three-dimensional owl, its wings outstretched, glass eyes, the entire case carved with fruiting grape vines, highlighted with two further smaller owls and a fox to the base, all with glass eyes, the circular brass dial with Arabic numerals, the quality movement striking on an eight rod gong, three suspended weights viewed through the glazed panel door. Provenance: Ex. an old Auckland family with whom it has been in their colonial Arney Road home for many years. Height 260 cm
