Twelve Chinese paintings on rice paper late Qing Dynasty, 19th century, each finely painted with gouache on rice paper depicting various court figures & musicians, each sheet of paper approximately 32 x 23 cm. The blue silk borders measure 27 x 18 cm, approximately. Provenance: Purchased from Jarrolds, Walter Jones of Sloane Street. Accompanied by receipt dated 1945

During the Ming Dynasty, China experienced a period of relative stability and prosperity. The government was centralized and bureaucratic, with the emperor at the top of the hierarchy. The Ming Dynasty is known for its cultural achievements, including the development of porcelain, the invention of movable type printing, and the construction of the Great Wall of China.
