Silver Fern Tie 1938, with hand written letter by C. K. Saxton, The letter reads: 'This tie was given to me to me during the 1938 All Blacks Tour of Australia, by a team member, Bill Carson. The 1938 team did not have an official Silver Fern tie. We had a black tie with white stripes. Bill had toured England with the 1937 cricket team and received 3 or 4 of these ties for that trip...' '.... World War broke out near the end of 1939 Bill Carson like thousands of other joined the 2 NZEF, That was the end of big cricket and big rugby for Bill. Major W.N. Carson M.C. died of wounds at sea on his way back to Egypt from Italy 8/10/44. C.K. Saxton'
