Botany Bay & second Fleet the London Chronicle, December 12-15, 1789: An edition rich with relevant articles including a brief reference to 'The Neptune convict ship...with the Botany Bay Rangers on board...' still waiting for orders, an extract of a letter from Portsmouth reporting that 'The number of convicts going out to Botany Bay, in the fleet now under sailing orders, amounts to 1000.......' mentioning the numbers on the Neptune, the Scarborough and the Surprize. There is also a brief update on George Barrington 'after his late emancipation from the fetters of the law...' and a description of a female prisoner who has 'become a candidate at least for Botany Bay....' Finally, there is a report that Sir Joseph Banks had visited the Discovery (the ship that had been part of Cook's Third Voyage) then being 'equipped at Deptford for remote services.....for any new plants which may be collected....'. Also, December 15-17, 1789: which includes a short report about 21 prisoners tried at the Old Bailey, two of whom were capitally convicted having previously received his Majesty's pardon on condition of being transported to New South Wales for life.
